New Triage Appointment System

Mackie Opticians have taken the difficult decision to now furlough all support staff.
Please be assured Dr Scott Mackie and Dr Roisin Mackie will still provide emergency, and essential eye care, at both of our Bothwell and Lesmahagow practices respectively.
We look forward to welcoming our support staff back as soon as possible.

What do I need to do if I need eye care?
Patients are requested to phone our Bothwell practice (01698 854858) or our Lesmahagow practice (01555 893929) to be diverted to a triage telephone assessment.
If the symptoms are such that an assessment can be made remotely, advice can be given and a prescription issued for medication if appropriate. If a physical assessment is required, an appointment time will be given so the patient can be seen at our nearest practice.

We hope you’re all keeping safe and well.

Patient Update – Mackie Opticians

NHS Scotland has advised high-street opticians to remain OPEN for the time being, but to restrict visits to ONLY emergency and essential eyecare from today, Monday 23rd March 2020.
Patients are still permitted to collect existing orders of spectacles, contact lenses and medications.

Some examples where emergency eyecare could be required are; painful eyes, sudden loss of vision, sudden symptoms such as flashes of light or floaters. Some examples where essential eyecare would be required, is with symptoms such as; irritable eyes, new headaches or loss of vision.

We can attend a patient’s home if an emergency or essential eyecare appointment is required, taking with us necessary equipment to prevent the spread of COVID-19 – such as face masks, aprons, gloves and eye protection.

Due to this, we have cancelled all patient recall letters for the foreseeable future, and have brought forward a 3 month supply of contact lenses for all of our patients paying direct debit for continuous wear. For patients who are self- isolating, we have also started a service to allow delivery of spectacles, contact lenses or medications direct to your home address.

As Mackie Opticians are independent prescribers, we are also in discussions with NHS Lanarkshire to allow access to secondary care patents within their practice. This means they’ll be able treat eye casualties or patients requiring follow up for conditions such as; post cataract surgery, OCT scans for wet macular degeneration and measurement of eye pressure for glaucoma.

If you have any concerns about your eyesight, please get in touch and we can triage your care appropriately. We’ll advise you on the severity of your symptoms and provide you with professional advice.
