THE NHS AND EYE CARE
All residents of Scotland are now entitled
to a free comprehensive eye examination. In addition, some people are
also eligible for assistance towards their lenses.
These include:
- children under 16 years
or under 19 years and in full time education
- patients with social
benefits e.g. income support, income based job seekers allowance, working
families tax credit, disabled persons tax credit, pension credit guarantee.
- patients with complex
lenses
- patients registered
partially sighted or blind
Please note patients on a low income (eg
student 19 years or above) or other social benefits (eg invalidity allowance)
can apply for assistance using a HC1 form which can be collected from
our reception.
Patients on a low income can apply for
help with the cost of an eye examination and spectacles.
Domicillary &
Extended Hours Clinics
|
In conjunction with Sightcare we have specialised domicillary sight testing equipment
to provide a portable service to be provided to patients who are
housebound or reside in nursing / residential homes. We also offer
clinics every day (excl Sunday), including Wednesday late night.

Low Vision
Clinic
|
Drs Scott & Roisin Mackie hold supplementary
qualifications in assessing patients whose vision can no longer
be improved with conventional spectacles, and provide specialist
magnifiers. A new pilot scheme can provide FREE magnifiers to residents
of Lanarkshire.

Corporate Eyecare
| We provide special spectacles for
VDU use and an eight part additional VDU test is performed in relation
to the Display Screen Equipment Regulations. Safety spectacles are
also available with appropriate advice given on toughened lenses and
frame design. |

Laboratory
| By having
our own workshops, the lenses can be prepared in advance and can be
fitted into your own frame in ten minutes meaning you can use your
existing frame. Also our new Essilor lathe provides up to the minute
technology and combined with a full explanation of different lens
types (i.e. distance, near, bifocal, multifocal, tints, thinner designs)
and frame types (i.e. budget, metal, plastic, hypo allergenic, rimless
), you will receive the highest quality advice and service. |

Dry/Wet Eye Clinic
|
Drs Scott & Roisin Mackie have a PhD in medical
optometry and providies assessment of dry/wet eyes. Treatments include
fitting Punctum plugs and/or provide lacrimal syringing to eliminate
or severely reduce symptoms.

Dr
Lennox Webb is a Consultant Ophthalmologist, who regularly performs
all types of cataract surgery. He offers expert advice on eye diseases
and uses state of the art technology to enable detection and treatment
of eye conditions.
